West University Place is a self-governed enclave located within the city of Houston, just west of Rice University. In fact, most streets in West U have university/college themes or are named after poets in order to honor the erudite inhabitants directly east of the small city.

West University Place was first conceived in 1910 and now houses more than 14,000 people in over 5,000 households. The city contains its own police force and creates its own ordinances.

West U is 5 minutes from the Museum District, Williams Tower, the TX Medical Center and is a short walk from Rice Village Shopping and Entertainment Center.
